TOWIE + HOUSE OF FRASER = HILARIOUS!

So it turns out Essex isn't just a place anymore, it's a trend? Really who decided that? Well apparently House of Fraser (maybe the most frustrating of all department stores, as I found out the other day in their Oxford street branch).

Interesting collaboration, get the idea, reckon it's a flash in the pan though.

Back from the land down under...no not Austrailia but New Zealand!

So yes it's almost been a month, but in that month I have indeed travelled the whole length of New Zealand!

You may ask "why"? And I shall answer to see the furthest land from here(London) (I think).
And yes it was a spectacle, the high light being Milford Sound.
Before I went I had no clue what a sound was, I thought does it have crazy whale music or something. Anyways nope it didn't just amazing waterfalls and huge mountains. INSANE!
Also during my visit I realised New Zealand has some great designers and boutiques. The cream of the crop, boutiques:
Angel Divine - Queenstown....
If I had ooodles of moula I would totally spend it here!
Cute heels! Carr heels!
For awesome vintage in a cute sea-side town check out Tauranga's Idiom:
Amazing finds! I got a really cute grey scarf (197o's) with a quirky pheasant print, pics to follow!
Also some cool new designers like : Medowlark, Juliandanger and Salasai.
Juliandanger
Sayuri Kimono.
It's cool that I found these boutiques in smaller towns.

Next time I hope to hit Auckland and Wellington large style. However did have a great night in Wellington, recommendation The Alice bar, cocktails in tea pots, what more does a girl want!
Oh yeah, and the Te Papa museum was ace too!

There I saw Giant squid in a huge tank, and an exhibition on European modern artists, funny huh! Awesome Museum.

Hope you enjoy the first instalment of The first summer of 2011!
Keep installed for more!
Next time highlights from Puzzling world!

Recent aquisitions in life and in fashion

Whilst listening to Beach House this morning, and checking my emails. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90ipyWYO3LM
I noticed two things:
  1. I had won this awesome spy camera on ebay!
  2. I haven't written a blog in a while.
Oops. I do apologize for my neglect, however I feel that this Monday the 24th of January (meaning January is almost over) that there is sufficient topics of interest to write about.
The reason for the camera wasn't a mere whim, it is due to the fact mine is broken and I am off to, hopefully, sunny New Zealand in two week! If that wasn't excitement enough it's also the end of Men's Paris fashion week.

To be frank with you I prefer Menswear for many reasons. Mainly aesthetic, but also the quality and time spent on the garments and details are generally about quality rather than spectacle.
This years highlights so far are:
  1. Jil Sander- Raf Simmons at the healm seems to still be cranking out look after look of glorious colour with effortless tailoring, I wish I was him sometimes.

2. Dior Homme- For some reason I can never get bored of Kris Van Assche. His baggy trousers, thin lapels and  blocking of materials just does it for me.

3. Hermes - another classic favourite, for me it was their materials and the quality and style of the cut, a real man's brand.

4. The ultimate highlight - Paul Smith- Accessories good, nope, really good, even fantastic, like papa please buy me one reaction. The clothes, really wearble yet hues of pop colours, including my favourite Mustard! Mustard not only an excellent condement it also a divine colour.

Overall that beanie and that bag made my day. Simple yes, but also the balance is rather complex.

I hope everyone's Mondays are manic and enjoyable.

Soon...........>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>x

Amazing news for Elliot Atkinson- Fashion East!

http://lulukennedy.blogspot.com/2011/01/excited-much.html

This is a guy I waitered with once. He's great! But not only that, his fashion is beautiful, contemporary and appropriate for now, (if that makes sense)
http://www.elliotatkinson.co.uk/
It's just great to see someone you know get a show.
So congrats Elliot!

Where's that wolf.....Lanvin stole it!

Werewolves, exciting? Furry? A thing of fiction?
Kanye West feat. Jay-z Bon Iver and Nicki Minaj, video for monster. Werewolf girl, making hairy look sexy!

Possibly, however wolves are real! Word.

Contemporary evidence is in Lanvin's new Pre-Autumn 2011 shoot. One word....Wunderbar!

Normally I would be anti a shoot like this. My argument would be using a wolf (or Jaguar, in later pictures) to advertise clothing or any commodity is shallow and cruel. But this works, it gives the hard-core lux brand a hard blunt fierce edge. And the final effect is utter style.
Noted this could step into the farcical realm of teen wolf, but at Maison Lanvin every essence of the brand is lux'd up to the max, so I suppose farce would always be a polar extreme of this brand, unless they chose to be quirky and ironic one season.

Lanvin I applaud you!

The forest which is the new year

So it's been a while, and in that time Christmas and New Years has passed.
However fashion has stayed pretty stagnant which in a way is a settling feeling. However life continues and for some reason this new year (2011) feels like it's going to be full of promise and excitement!
This forest (be it metaphorical) can either be seen in two ways. One: frightening, creepy, scary etc. Or exciting, enchanting and full of promise. I'm going for the latter.
Instead of making lots of new years resolutions I just saying this year I'm going to be open minded and get stuck in.
I love this image, yes it is full of arbitrariness, it's from this great visual library site called www.haw-lin.com you must take a peek. Apparently it's creator is a fashion designer but I have no clue who. Whomever it is they have some choice images, see below!
I love luggage and alliteration!
Super models rock!
Fashion desires:
  1. Things to get more colourful in this year, see above image.
  2. The Prada, go bananas range to be super popular and influential as it's awesome!
  3. More great classically feminine accessories for women, i.e. more pieces like the Vuitton and Sofia Coppola range!
  4. Generally more Terry Richardson glamour, style and radness (yes I can't believe I said it too).
If these aims are fulfilled people will have gleaming smiles on their faces rather than misery in their hearts!

Peace out and happy New Year,

p.s. check out Fagged and Frowzy new updates and pieces!

What is attractive?

This morning whilst getting ready for work I started to think about what is "attractive"? In connection to clothing and the way we look.
I suppose it goes back to thoughts I have been having about the level of description clothing has. For example if your not "into" fashion you probably still make statements through clothing.

With levels of attractiveness, this must be to do with social norms more than the pure essence of attractive. I.e. subversive trends.

Currently I have been looking back to the 40's and it's restraint elegance mixed with 70's lengthily femininity.
Marlene Dietrich
Versus
Bianca Jagger
For me these two looks and women represent a new form of attractiveness and femininity. One that has been lost in this decade, pure beauty. Women that aren't being slutty, or crude or un-womanly. I hope it continues to travel this way, as you watch programs like BBC's "Snog, marry or avoid" and just think "are these even women"?
Of course there will always be a place for these eye sores, much like the existence of Hill-billys and lunatics.

Lets all hope we restore to some sort of age of femininity.
Tainted beauty, truly timeless.

Chrsitmas....Yes indeed shoppers, and non-consumers it is finally here

Hello all!
Long time I know, but in that time I have been having an excellent time keeping busy with work, Christmas/Hanukkah lead up, and visiting friends new shops. I know people opening shops is a tad crazy but that's the way I tend to like people.

The first shop opening was my favourite, truly British shirt brands, second shop opening on the Kings Road : http://www.blaqua.net/ It was a fab night, their son ( well one half of Blaqua, Debbie and Simon, not Phillip) Luke was playing some excellent Northern Soul, and classic Rhythm and blues. One of the things I love about Blaqua is the British eccentricness, and a good example of this are their cufflinks.
Creepy but beautiful.
Another shop I visited today, but went to opening a few weeks ago was Here today Here tomorrow. http://heretodayheretomorrowblog.wordpress.com/
This is a friend from University, Julia Crew who has focused her designs on ethical fashion, in particular men's bags. I love her designs, (not in a biased way) and the creativity with recycling leather jackets, but making something tasteful and really desirable!
If I could buy anything for a certain someone this Christmas it would be one of these bags and I'm not just saying that.
Anyways enjoy, and if you happen to visit why not pop into Dalston superstore for lunch. I've only been in the evening but the other day I went for brunch and it was super yummy!
http://www.facebook.com/pages/London-United-Kingdom/Dalston-Superstore/59933254843

Other than that I've started designing and sourcing my own range of accessories so, hopefully, keep your eyes peeled for the new year, fingers cross everything goes smoothly I will have a completed range in the shops! Exciting and quite frightening : )
Enjoy the weather, and eat lots of xmas cookies and of course Mulled wine (drink aware) : )
Sophie the Sack maker!x
